Ajay Devgan and Rajkumar Santoshi to relive history

Remember, Shahrukh Khan’s ambitious project ‘Ashoka’ with Santosh Sivan which bombed at the box-office. This time it is Raj Kumar Santoshi, who is ready to make a film on the Mauryan emperor with Ajay Devgan.
“I’m aware of Sivan’s film. He’s a fine craftsman. But my approach and treatment to this fascinating subject will be very different. My Ashoka will open during the Battle of Kalinga and move forward into the emperor’s life and also recreate events pre-Kalinga through flashbacks,” said Santoshi.
The film goes on the floors in early 2008 and will be jointly produced by Santoshi and the owners of the PVR chain of multiplexes. The film will have no songs, but there will be a background score by AR Rahman.
Interestingly, after Ashoka, Santoshi plans to make Ramayan where Devgan will play Rama. With the ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ already made, this will be a hat-trick of historical-mythological movies from Santoshi-Devgan combination.
