Bollywood’s insight into social enigma of prostitution
Director Pardeep Sarkar who is renowned for his critically appraised movie Parineeta (2005), this time have picked up the issue of prostitution as profession owned by a woman to mean of sustenance and survival of her family. Sarkar’s movie ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ which is to be released on October 12, 2007 is his first movie with Yash Raj Films banner.
Movie starring Rani Mukherji and Konkona Sen Sharma have depicted the trauma of town girls who get trapped into prostitution when they moves to big cities in search of job and career. According to Sarkar, “The film presents a strong woman from a middle class background that chooses to be in the (sex) profession and remain what she was to support her family,”
The other stars of the film are Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher, Farida Jalal and Hema Malini in special appearance
