All about Govinda: A mega Star of Bollywood

Govinda, a talented actor of bollywood, has been a notable figure in bollywood for his acting skill especially for his comedy skill. He could make a distinct place in bollywood as a comedian hero competing with the contemporary co-actors. Many of his comedy movies are still remembered among his fans. His hardworking mentality and consistent performance made him a top class actor in bollywood.

Chi Chi nicknamed Govinda was born in Virar, Maharashtra in India in December 21, 1963. His real name is Govind Arun Ahuja and his father is Arun Ahuja and his mother is Nirmala Arun Ahuja.

Govinda started his acting career through the movie named Ilzaam directed by Shibu Mitra in 1986. He played the role of Ajay Kumar in the movie. After that he acted many of the bollywood movies but hardly any movie got box office hit. Then it was until 1988, his movie Hatya directed by his brother Kirti Kumar got a significant success in the box office for the first time in is career. Though the movie was a milestone in his acting career, there are two movies named Shola Aur Shabham (1992) and Aankhen (1993), which are seen as the turning point for his career and through this two movies bollywood also got one of the notable comedy heroes in its history. It is noteworthy that both the movies were directed by famous director David Dhawan. Govinda coupled with David Dhawan produced many successful movies in bollywood which best-represent his acting career. After getting a huge success in this back to back two movies, Govinda started acting in comedy based roles and the movies continued making boom in the box office in the 1990s. Some of his notable movies in the last decade were ‘Coolie No. 1’ (1994), ‘Saajan Chale Sasural (1996)’, ‘Hero No. 1 (1997)’, ‘Deewana Mastana’ (1997), ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ (1998) and ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’ (1999) and most important thing is that all of these popular movies were directed by David Dhawan.

Having got a huge success in comedy based roles he also tried his luck for villainous role in the movie ‘Shikari’ directed by N. Chandra. He played the role of Om Srivastav in the movie. However, though his performance in the movie was promising, the movie could not turn any much hit in the box office.

Govinda, though, is best-knoen for his comedy related roles; his powerful contribution in dancing in bollywood is inevitable. This skilled dancer first introduced modern type of dancing in bollywood after the end of the ear of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra. Govinda’s distinct style and passionate dancing started a new ear of dancing in bollywood which is now being carried by Hrithik Roshan, the present star of bollywood.

This benevolent figure of bollywood movie, joined politics in 2004 and became a member of Indian parliament being elected in the last general election in India. He won a parliamentary seat in Mumbai, India. His participation in the last election and involvement in politics led him towards a long absence in bollywood. After becoming MP, just two movies acted by Govinda were released and the movies, Sandwich and Ssukh, could not turn any notable success for him. So, recently a rumor is roaming around that the days of Govinda has gone from bollywood. However, this energetic actor is coming with his new comedy based movie ‘Bhagam Bhag’ which is thought to a crucial movie for his career and many of the things regarding his acting career depends on the success of this movie. It is very possible to make a successful comeback for this 43 year old actor and the opposite site is also threatening his career. In the movie, he will play the role of a theater artist, Babla, who is very much interested about the girls both in his group and outside the group. The movie also involves some powerful and popular star of bollywood including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal.
Govinda’s filming career is adorned with some of the prestigious awards available in India. In 1997 he got special Filmfare award for his super hit movie ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’. In 1999, he was named as the Filmfare best comedian for the movie ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’. He also got Zee Cine Award for best actor in a comic role twice. First he got it in 1999 for is movie named ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and in 2000 he got it for second it for his popular movie ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’. There are some other awards which represent his acting talent and skill as an actor.Govinda married Sunita Govind Ahuja in 1987. They have one son and a daughter. To many of his fans he is a demi God and they are very much influenced by the actor. Well, it is the same case for other stars of bollywood as well, however, his passionate figure and dress up could easily attract the youth and this fashion conscious actor was a fashion idol for the youth just as Hrithik Roshan is now to his fans.

Govinda seems to be regular in bollywood as some of is movies are now in production and are set to be released in the next year. David Dhawan’s next film ‘Partner’ involves him. Directed by Aparna Sen, ‘Jewellery Box’ is projected to be released in 2007 and Govinda will be seen in the movie named ‘Rang Manche’ directed by Ujwal Chatterjee and it is also said that Govinda will act in K.C.Bokadia’s next film. Here it is noteworthy that Govinda has already acted in over 120 films in bollwood.

So, it is not a matter for an actor like Govinda to get movie even though his recent movies have not got any success in the box office. Rather directors can rely on his ability and acting skill which proves his greatness as an actor. His glorious career can best represent the quality of his acting. In addition, playing the role of hero at the age of 43 really deserves some credit. Though it is also true that, for an actor like Govinda, it is prestige which is the key concern and it does a matter with the performance of his movies at the box office. You have to wait a few days to know whether his new movie Bhagam Bhag could make any boom in the industry. I think he has proven his potential already and now it is the time to show something special to make critics remind his greatness. I hope he with his experience and talent will be succeeded this time as well.
